Founding Fundamentals & Mission

The Hank Johnson School of Golf is founded on the research based fundamental principles of effective motor skill learning and performance.  This will assure that each and every student is given the optimum opportunity to permanently improve his or her performance in the shortest possible time.  Our instructors are trained in the latest and most effective coaching techniques for the acquisition of motor skills and the use of those skills in a competitive setting. We measure our success based upon the competitive performance of our students.  Our records indicate that we have the ability to help golfers get better, faster than any other golf instructional organization in the world.

Our Mission is to deliver a wide spectrum of highly effective golf performance improvement programs for golfers of all skill levels; to make these programs conveniently available and competitively priced; and to provide an optimum opportunity for apprentice golf instructors to improve their skills, experience and credentials.

“Second to No One in the Teaching Industry.”

Hank and his team are some of the best in the business, and their records prove that they can make people better, faster than anywhere else in the country. Whether you are a beginner, junior, weekend club golfer, or experienced tour professional, they have a program that can be tailored to your needs. Their students average a 10+ stroke improvement every year, including hundreds of personal best scores each year. In addition, their juniors have combined for hundreds of wins in the last few years, with college golfers combining for more than 30 wins in that time, and they have taught tour professionals at every level who have won repeatedly on various tours over the last 20 years.

Timberline Golf Club

Calera, AL

Rated by Golf Week magazine as one of Alabama’s Top 10 Courses you can play. Timberline was #9 in 2010 and #8 in 2011-2015.

The designer of Timberline Golf Club’s superb par-71 course that plays at almost 7,000 yards from the tips is none other than Jerry Pate. Pate’s ultimate creation is a course that’s fun to play, that’s meticulously manicured and that rolls gently up and down a beautiful site well shaded by tall timber – the fragrant pines and huge oaks and hardwoods that give the course its name.

Timberline Golf Club, located just minutes from Birmingham in Calera, AL., is the perfect place to play.

Learn about Golf Channel Academy

Golfers enrolled at Golf Channel Academy locations will not only have the opportunity to learn from the very best coaches in the game today, but will be able to track their progress using advanced swing analysis tools and a proprietary player-coach communication platform that will accelerate their progress.

The underlying philosophy of Golf Channel Academy—which all of our coaches reinforce—is that good coaching takes place over a period of time, not just one lesson. The relationship between coach and student is more than just “one and done.” This is how “teaching” becomes “coaching,” which we describe as an on-going relationship devoted to long-lasting improvement. Everything about Golf Channel Academy is devoted to enhancing the “coaching” experience for both teacher and student.

Golf Channel Academy is the hands-on coaching extension of the cable network’s instruction programming, which includes such shows as The Golf Fix, Lesson Tee Live, and School of Golf. Golf Channel Academy allows you to receive personalized instruction from the very best coaches in the game, including many of the teachers who you see on TV. And you should see many more Golf Channel Academy coaches making appearances on Golf Channel instructional programs in the future.
